Answers to Some Frequent Questions

What curriculum does Forest Edge follow?

Forest Edge follows the IEB Curriculum.

IEB stands for ‘Independent Examinations Board’, a non-profit assessment agency designed to set examinations based on the National Senior Certificate (NSC) and its rigorous standards. IEB examinations are internationally benchmarked to ensure that your child can thrive in any setting.

How does Forest Edge accommodate different learning needs?

Our teachers are trained to meet each student exactly where they are – adapting their methods to suit different learning styles, strengths, and paces. By limiting the number of students per class, we have the capacity to understand individual needs and help children grow with confidence.

We also offer collaborative support between teachers, families and, where needed, outside professionals to ensure every student feels empowered and well-equipped for their future.

How does Forest Edge maintain high academic standards?

All Forest Edge teaching staff are academically qualified and passionate about their craft, each equipped to teach the specific grades and subjects entrusted to them. Our teachers regularly attend workshops and collaborative training sessions to stay at the forefront of educational methods and thinking. To uphold our high standards, we’ve also introduced a framework that ensures consistent academic excellence and meaningful monitoring.

With classes no bigger than 24 pupils, we ask bold questions and challenge convention, drawing on the best of both local and international education practices. Above all, we strive to create an environment free from fear, pressure, and anxiety: a space where curiosity thrives, confidence grows and children are free to bloom.

How does Forest Edge assess grades?

At Forest Edge, we challenge outdated systems, ensuring that our students are prepared for anything life throws at them. The ideas we’re working on are limitless, and we’re constantly looking for ways to improve our education style and keep up with the latest academic trends and technology – all in an effort to keep students engaged and thriving. We challenge the status quo and refuse to stagnate.

Each learning phase is tailored with age-appropriate learning in mind, from the explorative play in our pre-primary phase to the high standards of our secondary phase.

What extramural sports activities are available at Forest Edge?

At Forest Edge, we value the life skills that sports teach: self-esteem, resilience, teamwork, discipline, and lasting friendships.

Our evolving sports offering includes: ball skills, cricket, athletics, netball, hockey, cross country, and soccer.

What extramural arts and culture activities are available?

Arts and cultural activities at Forest Edge are designed to build confidence, inspire creativity and develop character. Opportunities include choir, drama, music, art, reading, and environmental clubs, as well as a variety of life-enriching excursions.

Throughout the year, our students have the opportunity to engage in experiences that spark curiosity and broaden their world. This includes dramatic performances, guest speakers and workshops that support emotional intelligence and life skills development.

Are extramural activities compulsory?

While these activities are an important part of a well-rounded education and participation is encouraged, we never want it to be a source of anxiety by making it compulsory. We also approach it age-appropriately, encouraging enthusiastic participation during the Pre-Primary and Foundation Phases, while fostering a more competitive spirit throughout the Intermediate and College Phases.

What will be included in the new campus facilities?

Planning is already underway, and once it is complete, our Forest Edge family can look forward to a mindfully designed environment where creativity, exploration, and discovery flourish. Planned facilities include spacious classrooms, a STEAM centre, sports fields, a school hall, a library, computer rooms, and safe outdoor play areas.

Why choose Forest Edge?

We offer more than just a standard education – we offer a place of belonging and growth. Grounded in faith-based values and guided by a vision for holistic development, we create a nurturing space where all students are seen, supported as individuals and inspired to thrive.

Forest Edge is a school where our pupils are encouraged to ask questions, think boldly, and become the most well-rounded versions of themselves.

Which grades are supported?

We support young minds as early as four months, giving them the best possible start to a lifelong education. As of now, we’re accepting applications for our first Grade 8 class, with plans to expand all the way to Grade 12 at our new campus.

When do admissions open?

Applications for 2026 are currently open. For more information about admissions and applications, make sure to keep a close eye on our social media, where we give updates as soon as they’re available.

We do intakes all year round and do not have deadlines or cut-offs for admissions.

Where will the future campus be located?

Our single, purpose-built Forest Edge campus will be located in Knysna’s scenic Green Pastures – where our current schools will unite to offer all our facilities on one site.

Our new campus will be dedicated to expanding our students’ access and taking them straight through to Grade 12. This will ensure that our pupils will get the best education possible as they mature into the real world and prepare for life beyond school.
